State of Our Mission 2025

In July 2020, we began the process of incorporating the Bull Terrier Rescue Mission as a charitable entity in the State of New York. On August 20, 2020, we received our official Letter of Determination from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, confirming our status as a 501(c)(3) public charity. Five years later this is the State of our Mission.

Since opening our doors, we’ve welcomed 454 individual cases into our care. 4 of which were reunited with their owners. 54 crossed the rainbow bridge while in custody - 30 who’s health was unrecoverable or passed due to age or infirmity, and 24 where behaviors posed a danger to the public, to themselves, or to the devoted families who opened their homes to them. All 54 were loved, cherished, and cared for to the fullest extent our team—and you, our incredible supporters, could provide. 306 of our dogs have been adopted and now have families of their own. 38 more are in foster to adopt homes, waiting for their shot at the brass ring. 31 are currently in foster care, undergoing evaluation and awaiting medical clearance. The final 21 are a mix of hospice, medical, or behavioral special-needs cases, which prevent them from being “adopted.” They are lovingly cared for by people who have opened their homes to provide comfort and support to animals whose prospects are far from ideal.

These dogs—and any others who join our program with a terminal diagnosis or traits that are traditionally considered undesirable—will remain under our care for the rest of their lives. We take full financial responsibility for them and consider it an honor to do so. “These are the ones we do this for.”

Five years has brought a lot of ups and downs, but through all the tears, joyful and otherwise, we’ve left our mark on a lot of lives. With your help & dedication we’ve made this thing of ours more than just a personal ambition. It’s become a foundation for something that can carry on when we as individuals can’t. We’ve built a culture that gives us the strength to continue safeguarding the health and welfare of unwanted Bull Terriers, carrying them toward a better tomorrow. Towards a brighter future. To touch the lives of others in a way that leaves them better for having known us.
